The original Flash features on the cover for issue #2 of DC Comics' forthcoming title.
"As the book unfolds, Jay Garrick is very much our point of entry to the world," writer James Robinson told Newsarama.
"He's the 'everyman' character that we all like, that we all want to be, want to hang out with. That's kind of the role he was in the original Earth 2, and I think it suits him well. He's the likable guy, the one you care about."
Robinson promised a "reboot" of the parallel 'Earth 2' concept, one that "isn't darker" but took a different route to the mainstream DC Universe.
"By the end of the first issue, I guarantee you you'll get a sense of how this world is different and then how it's familiar at the same time," he said.
He also emphasised that Earth 2 would not just be a new Justice Society title.
DC unveiled a series of redesigns for Earth 2 characters last week.
Garrick debuted in Flash Comics #1 in 1940.
Earth 2 will debut in May.
