A Swedish hospital has apologised after a discrimination complaint undermined its "hot" nurse advertisement.

A 64-year-old man claimed that he was rejected from a nursing role at the Stockholm South General simply for being "too wrinkly" and having a "slight limp".

The original advert stated: "You will be motivated, professional and have a sense of humour. And of course, you will be TV-series hot or a Söder hipster."

Nursing manager Jörgen Andersson last week boasted about the lack of any negative feedback, and insisted that the ads were simply there to "catch people's attention".

However, the hospital released an apologetic statement saying: "We are sorry if we have hurt anyone or created a distorted picture of Stockholm South General.

"Our idea of the nurse is quite different than that which has been conveyed by the media recently. Our view is neither male nor female, handsome or ugly, tall or short. Our image is professional, competent, responsible and well educated.

"We really want to emphasise that we have the best job in the world, and we believe many others would like to work with what we do. A job that makes a difference."
