A German biker has announced plans to start a service that allows the deceased to ride on a Harley hearse.

Though Joerg Grossmann's prototype sidecar hearse is currently fitted to a Kawasaki VN 1500, he aims to have his fleet of 10 Harley-Davidson hearses ready by the end of the year, reports BBC News.

A normal hearse costs around €200 (£170 / $260) to hire. His hearse - targeted at bike enthusiasts - costs €1,200 (£1,000 / $1,600). However, Grossmann estimates that German bookings alone will be at 1,000 a year.

The biker added that he hopes to expand to neighbouring countries such as Switzerland, stating that the service he will provide is "something special".

In the UK, Reverend Paul Sinclair runs a similar business in Hampshire.

Motorcycle Funerals Ltd has been in operation since 2002 and offers customers the choice between a Triumph, a Suzuki and a Harley Davidson.
