'Amazeballs' has been added to the latest edition of the Collins English Dictionary, the publisher has confirmed.

A total of 86 new words and phrases have been added to the dictionary's online version following a public 'wordsearch'.

'Mummy porn' has entered the dictionary on the back of the success of EL James's Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, while 'blootered' - a word used as a synonym for drunk in Scotland - has also been added.

Collins explained that it had opened up its inclusion process in order to make the way language is recorded more democratic.

Alex Brown, who is head of digital at Collins, told PA: "We were optimistic about just how keen people would be to take part, but have been blown away by the volume and variety of submissions, and the way that this opportunity to contribute and help document the English language has captured the public imagination."

Other additions include the words 'frenemy' - signifying a person who is both a friend and a rival - 'floordrobe', which is used to define the contents of a wardrobe strewn across a floor, and 'tiger mother' - a strict and demanding mother who pushes her child or children to high levels of achievement.

The new words and phrases will now be considered as candidates for the next print edition of the Collins English Dictionary.
