10 Biggest Gaming Releases for July

After a very busy June, with the likes of the E3 Expo, inFamous 2 and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D in the space of a few weeks, comes a bit of a breather. The 3DS gets another anticipated release with Resident Evil, the Summer of Arcade kicks off and movie blockbusters Harry Potter and Captain America get gaming tie-ins.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D

Release date: June 28 (North America), July 1 (Europe)
Platforms: Nintendo 3DS

Based on the Mercenaries side mode in Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, The Mercenaries 3D sees players race against time to defeat enemies before a clock runs down. It features solo missions, two-player co-operative play online and a Skill Shot feature where players can equip new abilities based on their style of play.

UFC Personal Trainer: The Ultimate Fitness System

Release date: June 28 (North America), July 1 (Europe)
Platforms: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3

Developed in conjunction with the National Academy of Sports Medicine and leading MMA experts, UFC Personal Trainer: The Ultimate Fitness System features fitness routines and programmes used by UFC fighters. The Kinect version of the game offers exclusive content, including voice command navigation and a full-body tracking system, while the PS3 version uses PlayStation Move.



Tour de France: The Official Game

Release date: N/A (North America), July 1 (Europe)
Platforms: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3

From the developer of Pro Cycling Manager, Tour de France: The Official Game sees players control a rider across all 21 stages of the world's largest bike tournament. One novel feature includes actions that impact your reputation and loyalties with other racers in the pack.



Captain America: Super Soldier

Release date: July 19 (North America), July 15 (Europe)
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS

Tying in with motion picture Captain America: The First Avenger, this sees players control Captain America in a third-person action game. Players will fight foes such as Iron Cross, the Hydra Army and the Red Skull in an original story penned by Avengers: The Initiative writer Christos Gage, and also offers the likeness and voice of Chris Evans.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2

Release date: July 12 (North America), July 15 (Europe)
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PC

Released alongside the motion picture of the same name, this action adventure features a host of playable characters, including Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Seamus, Neville and Professor Flitwick as they battle to save Hogwarts from destruction. Voldemort will also feature as an unlockable playable character in multiplayer by collecting specific in-game tokens.

Bastion

Release date: July 20 (Worldwide)
Platforms: Xbox Live Arcade

Bastion kicks off this year's Summer of Arcade on Xbox Live Arcade. It's an action role-playing game featuring a reactive narrator that changes the story based on your actions. Unique features include hand-painted visuals and the ability to replay the game in a New Game Plus option.

Call of Juarez: The Cartel

Release date: July 19 (North America), July 22 (Europe)
Platforms: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC

This third Call Of Juarez game sees the Wild West series move to the present day, taking players on a journey from Los Angeles, California to Juarez, Mexico. Publisher Ubisoft claims it'll have a "very gritty and relevant plot" and "wide variety" of gameplay options.

Cars 2: The Video Game

Release date: June 21 (North America), July 22 (Europe)
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Wii, DS

Set after the events of the motion picture, Cars 2: The Video Game is set in CHROME (Command Headquarters of Recon Operations and Motorised Espionage), a training facility designed for spy cars. It features a variety of multiplayer options, including local four-player split screen across all of its modes.

Earth Defence Force: Insect Armageddon

Release date: July 5 (North America), July 22 (Europe)
Platforms: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3

Earth Defence Force: Insect Armageddon is the follow-up to 2007's Earth Defence Force 2017, a cult favourite that launched early on in the Xbox 360's lifespan. The Earth Defence Force games are arcade third-person shooters where players face off against waves of giant insect creatures and robot enemies.

From Dust

Release date: July 27 (Worldwide)
Platforms: Xbox Live Arcade

The second Summer of Arcade release, From Dust is the latest game from Eric Chahi, the creative force behind cult 16-bit platformer Another World. Players assume the role of a god who must sculpt landscapes to guide a tribe to their destination, and protect them from harsh elements such as lava and tsunamis.
