The Uplay Passport will provide players access to bonus content and online multiplayer, and will be included in new Ubisoft games that support those features. Uplay Passports will also be available as DLC for $9.99 (£6) for those who buy the games used.
Ubisoft announced that Driver: San Francisco will be the first game to use the Uplay Passport, which releases on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, 3DS and PC in September.
Online passes have been adopted by companies including Electronic Arts, Warner Bros Interactive and Rockstar. Sony recently announced that Resistance 3 will use the company's new PSN pass, which analysts have said is poorly timed after the PSN breach in May.
