'Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim', 'Portal 2' scoop GDC Awards

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has scooped the top prize at the 2012 Game Developers Choice Awards.

Bethesda's open-world RPG was named as 'Game of the Year' at yesterday's (March 7) ceremony, with Portal 2 also winning big with three accolades.

Valve's puzzle-platform title secured 'Best Audio', 'Best Narrative' and 'Best Game Design'.

Uncharted 3 and Battlefield 3 were among the other winners on the night, while Supergiant Games's Bastion took home 'Best Debut' and 'Best Downloadable Game'.

Warren Spector was awarded the 'Lifetime Achievement' prize.

Bethesda director Todd Howard, accepting the award for Skyrim, said: "We never imagined the reception the game would get or the reception that it has had. This has been an amazing ride for us, not just for this game but for the last 25-plus years at Bethesda."

Last year, Red Dead Redemption won 'Game of the Year'.
