By
Nintendo has announced that a firmware update will be released for 3DS next week.

The download will enable games to be patched, and allow users to create folders on the system's Home Menu.

Folders will help 3DS owners to organise their files, offering space for up to 60 icons each. Select software will also be updatable through the Nintendo eShop, and a recommendations system has been added to the storefront.

Mario Kart 7 will be the first game to receive a patch via the update, with one scheduled for mid-May. The fix will eliminate the infamous shortcut bug known as the Maka Wuhu glitch. Users who do not download the patch will be unable to play the game online.

Nintendo previously said that it would not be taking action to amend the glitch, but has not offered clarification about why it backtracked on the matter.

The Nintendo 3DS firmware update will be released on April 25.
