'The Elder Scrolls Online' announcement trailer - watch

By
The Elder Scrolls Online has been given its first trailer by Bethesda.

The announcement trailer teases the back story of the upcoming online role-playing game.

With the Imperial Throne empty, darkness envelopes the land, while ancient enemies band together.

Referring to the multiplayer aspect of the title, the video ends with the line: "Salvation cannot come from one hero alone, but from many."

Announced yesterday, the massively-multiplayer title allows players to explore the entirety of Tamriel in an adventure set a millennium before the events of Skyrim.

Developed by Zenimax Online Studios, it will combine the extensive exploration elements of the stand-alone Elder Scrolls games with the social and collaborative aspects of an MMO.

Solo and public dungeons have been confirmed, along with player-versus-player combat that sees three factions fight in open-world warfare.

The adventure is set during the reign of daedric prince Molag Bal as he attempts to destroy Tamriel.

The Elder Scrolls Online will be available on PC and Mac in 2013.

Skyrim's first DLC pack 'Dawnguard' was teased earlier this week, while the Xbox 360 version was updated with Kinect support.
