'Angry Birds' successor named by Rovio, 'Amazing Alex' launching July

By
Angry Birds developer Rovio has announced its new game.

Amazing Alex is another physics-related puzzle game, based on Rovio's recent acquisition Casey's Contraptions.

Casey's Contraptions, which was developed by Snappy Touch and Mystery Coconut, has been removed from the App Store while Rovio reworks and enhances the title.

"Working with Noel [Llopis, Snappy Touch founder] and Miguel [A Friginal, Mystery Coconut founder] has been fantastic, and this is a game that we all fell in love with from the first play," Rovio's Ville Heijari told Gamasutra.

"The gameplay is a perfect fit in our arsenal with its approachable, fun and highly addictive take on the physics puzzler genre. We are currently reworking the title to enhance it, and getting ready to reintroduce it in a true 'expect the unexpected' Rovio-style launch to an even larger audience."

The game, which will feature an educational element, launches on iOS and Android devices this summer. Further platform support will be added post-launch.

Recent release Angry Birds Space, meanwhile, has racked up more than 50 million downloads since it launched.

A Simpsons version of the popular mobile game is rumoured, following a teaser image in the latest update.
