In the week since its launch, more than 6.3 million gamers have played the dungeon crawler, a number which doesn't include players in Korean internet game rooms, where the title enjoys a 39% share.

"We're definitely thrilled that so many people around the world were excited to pick up their copy of Diablo 3 and jump in the moment it went live," revealed Blizzard's Mike Morhaime.

Referring to the server problems that have plagued the game's launch, he added: "We also regret that our preparations were not enough to ensure everyone had a seamless experience when they did so.

"I want to reaffirm our commitment to make sure the millions of Diablo 3 players out there have a great experience with the game moving forward, and I also want to thank them for their ongoing support."

Diablo 3 launched last week, topping the PC chart, but failing to match combined Xbox 360 and PS3 sales for Max Payne 3.

A Starter Edition for Diablo 3 was recently confirmed, offering a limited introduction to the game with content similar to its private beta.
