The June issue of Nintendo Power reveals the title as its cover story, confirming rumors that surfaced last week.
The game will take place 25 years after the events of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and stars Trevor Belmont as the lead protagonist. In total there will be four playable characters that can be switched between at certain points in the story, including Simon Belmont and two characters yet to be revealed.
Characters will gain experience and level up to learn new combos and abilities. Each character will also have a unique skill. For example, Trevor is said to use light and dark magic, while Simon makes use of various sub-weapons.
The combat system is described as similar to Castlevania: Lords of Shadow with separate heavy and light attacks as well as block and grab buttons.
It will use 3D polygonal characters and scenery, though it will be played primarily from a 2D perspective similar to previous handheld Castlevania games with a focus on non-linear exploration. There will also be occasional areas that allow for full 3D movement.
Konami is expected to officially announce Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate during its pre-E3 press conference on Friday, June 1.
A sequel to Castlevania: Lords of Shadow on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Vita is also rumoured to be announced at the event.
