According to Deadline, the director and his producer Jon Landau handed over the blue Prius gifts following the success of the science fiction movie at cinemas and on Blu-ray and DVD. Avatar currently holds the record for the highest-grossing movie of all time with $2.7 billion in ticket sales worldwide.
The hybrid electric cars were chosen to reflect the movie's message of environmental preservation.
Cameron will film the Avatar sequels back-to-back in late 2011. Avatar 2 will be released in December 2014, followed by Avatar 3 in December 2015.
