The 53-year-old, who was nominated for the original song 'Masterpiece' in her directorial debut W.E., was shocked to receive the accolade.

Madonna at first struggled to give her speech, stuttering as she took the microphone.
"I'm not French, I have no excuse," she said, referring to previous award recipient Ludovic Bource, who took home the award for 'Best Original Score' for The Artist.

Madonna went on to admit that she was reluctant to pen a song for her directorial debut, as she wanted to focus solely on filmmaking. However, she revealed that a song soon came to her.
"Somehow, magically and miraculously, the song emerged," she told the audience.
Madonna especially thanked her manager for encouraging her to write a track for the film.
