Julie Delpy: 'I want to be like Woody Allen, Robert Altman'

By
Julie Delpy has commented on her admiration for legendary directors Woody Allen and Robert Altman.

The actress's latest directorial effort 2 Days in New York, co-starring Chris Rock, is the sequel to her acclaimed 2007 film 2 Days in Paris, which followed the story of a woman introducing her American boyfriend to her eccentric French parents.

In a discussion of the companion films with Reuters, Delpy said that she emulated both Allen and Altman's directorial style.

"I want to have [Woody's] career. If I have his career I will be very, very happy and very, very lucky," the French star said. "I also love Robert Altman, I love how he created interaction between characters and this feeling that everything is totally natural and normal."

Delpy also explained the complexities of being a French citizen who spends much of her time in America.

"I am still treated as a French person, but sometimes people are resentful that I love it in the US. It's a French thing, you know, but most of the time I am included in being this French person that has moved," she said.

"It is unclear to them what I am doing and what I am aiming for. The [French] are a bit surprised and they kind of hate that because they love to put people in boxes. But I think that is here [in the US], too."

2 Days in New York is expected to be released in the US later this year.
