"Thank you academy for putting me with the hottest guy in the room," Spencer said, accepting her trophy from Christian Bale, who won the award for 'Best Supporting Actor' last year.

"I have to thank my family, my family in Alabama, the state of Alabama, my LA family... my Help family," she added before bursting into tears.

Spencer also thanked Steven Spielberg for "changing [her] life", then noted that she was being told to wrap up her speech by the show's producers.

"I'm sorry, I'm freaking out, thank you world... I'm sorry!" she concluded as she left the stage.

Spencer also triumphed at this year's BAFTAs and Screen Actors' Guild awards.
