Danny Dyer: 'I auditioned for Robin in Batman & Robin'

By
Danny Dyer has claimed that he auditioned for the role of Robin in Batman & Robin.

The part in fact went to Chris O'Donnell, who had played it in the preceding movie Batman Forever and starred opposite George Clooney.

Asked about the roles he had missed out on, Dyer told Popbitch: "Well I auditioned for American History X - I got quite close to that.

"I mean, I totally understand that Edward Furlong was amazing in it, and he is American so they went down that route with it."

He added: "I auditioned for Primal Fear as well and ironically that was weird, because Edward Norton got that part! I auditioned for Robin in Batman & Robin with Joel Schumacher.

"It's strange really because for every one part you get, you lose out on 20 - rejection, you get used to that pretty early, but you still want to know why, you want to know details. Why? Why don't they want me?

"You're in competition with so many actors, you can't just be in competition with yourself - you've just got to accept it and move on. I was given many rejections to start with and I'm sure there have been many actors that I have beat to the jobs that feel the same way."

Director Schumacher last year revealed that he was asked to direct a follow-up to Batman & Robin called Batman Triumphant, but turned it down.
