Jason Segel: 'I wanted to be a footnote in the Muppets legacy'

By
Jason Segel has revealed his reasons behind choosing not to pen a sequel to The Muppets.

The Five-Year Engagement actor recently passed on writing the second Muppets film earlier this month, claiming that he wanted to leave the franchise in "very good hands".

In an interview with Parade, Segel insisted that he never planned to write more than one Muppets movie and now wants to move forward with "human-related" projects.

"My goal wasn't to be the new head of the Muppets but to be a footnote in the legacy. I did what I set out to do, and now I'd like to pursue human-related projects," he explained.

"I'm a very good writer - all modesty aside - but it's not my main profession. I am happy to leave it in the hands of people who are great and competent."

Segel also shared a moment that made his time working on the first Muppets film so worthwhile, adding: "One of my friends' kids came to set and got to meet Kermit. And when we were watching the movie, she screamed out, 'I know him!' That broke my heart."
