Written and directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart), the film centres on two brothers played by Christian Bale and Casey Affleck, who find themselves gradually sucked into a life of crime.

Zoe Saldana has been cast as Bale's love interest, while Sam Shepard will play the brothers' uncle.

Harrelson has recently appeared in The Hunger Games and Rampart, and will next be seen in In Bruges writer-director Martin McDonagh's Seven Psychopaths.

Whitaker's upcoming projects include a role in Robert De Niro vehicle Freelancers.

Production reportedly began on Out Of The Furnace yesterday (April 13) in Braddock, Pennsylvania, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Ridley Scott among the film's producers.
