Hugh Grant has provided an update on the much-speculated Bridget Jones 3.

The tentatively titled Bridget Jones's Baby was in development earlier this year, but work on the project apparently stalled because Grant was dissatisfied with the script.

Grant said he still has high hopes for the Bridget Jones sequel while promoting his new film The Pirates! Band of Misfits in New York City.

"I've seen some scripts. They haven't quite hit the nail yet, but they will. They're working on it," the actor told MTV News.

Grant also joked that the new film will likely include at least one brawl between his character Daniel Cleaver and Colin Firth's Marc Darcy.

"Yes, our public demands some more fisticuffs," he quipped.

The original film Bridget Jones's Diary proved to be a worldwide box office smash in 2001, taking in more than $281m (£174.3m) at the box office.

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, a sequel, also proved to be a hit in 2004.

The Full Monty director Peter Cattaneo has reportedly been lined up to helm the third film.
