Available for iOS and Andoid mobile devices, the Qualcomm's Vuforia-powered application features exclusive animated footage filmed by the movie's stunt team.
"Many of today's moviegoers are digital natives on the go, and our app allows us to engage them," said Sony Pictures digital marketing executive Dwight Caines.
"Our use of augmented reality technology is a fun way of embracing the 3D aspects of the movie while nurturing the playful kid inside all of us who wants to collect items from their favourite superhero character to share with their friends and family."
Users can activate animations within the Amazing Spider-Man augmented reality app by discovering locations for individual marker images listed on the movie's official website and social channels. They can also capture and share photographs of the Marvel hero within the application.
The Amazing Spider-Man will open on July 3 in the US and July 4 in the UK.
