Jessica Chastain has confirmed that she will not appear in Iron Man 3.

It was reported last month that Chastain had been offered the part of a scientist billed as a match for Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr), and that efforts were being made to work out her scheduling conflicts.

"Sorry to say that Iron Man 3 isn't going to work out. My schedule is jammed packed and I can't fit anything else in," Chastain wrote on her Facebook page.

"The press announced my possible attachment far too soon. I know many of you wanted me to be involved, and I'm so sorry to disappoint you."

Chastain is currently working on Kathryn Bigelow's Osama Bin Laden movie Zero Dark Thirty.

She is also attached to appear alongside Joel Edgerton, one of her co-stars in the film, in Ned Benson's double feature The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby.

"Hopefully there'll be another Marvel film in my future," the Oscar-nominated actress continued. "Shane Black and everyone on the IM3 team are really wonderful.

"I'm very excited to see the film when it comes out."
