He told Lorraine Kelly: "Imagine if President Obama hadn't won, and somebody pitched a screenplay where a black man named Barack Obama runs for president and wins.

"It's the worst screenplay you've ever read, it's awful! Who'd waste their time writing that fake story? It'll never happen! Life is far stranger than fiction can ever be."

Smith also joked that his son Jaden is desperate to rival his famous father's successful career in the future.

"Jaden wants it really bad, he just can't wait for me to slip. I say, 'Son, I'll teach you everything I know. If you concentrate really hard, you'll be the second-biggest movie star in the world'."

On returning as Agent J in the Men in Black series, he added: "You have the suit, you slide the shades on, your face gets serious, and you feel the Man in Black wash over you. It's a little boy's fantasy."

Will Smith revealed yesterday that Jaden Smith asked Barack Obama about the existence of aliens.

Men in Black III debuts in theatres worldwide on May 25.
