The Marvel Studios movie, which is widely expected to be announced at San Diego Comic-Con International later in the month, will be released on May 16, 2014 according to Variety.

The team - which is currently disbanded in the main continuity - is dedicated to defending the universe against major cosmic threats.
The lineup includes Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora, Mantis and Cosmo, a psychic Russian dog.
Thor and Challenger screenwriter Nicole Perlman is said to have penned a well-regarded script for the adaptation.
The Guardians are due to return to the pages of the Marvel Universe in August's Avengers Assemble #6.
San Diego Comic-Con will run from July 12-15.
