The Hostel franchise helmer is in line to join Warner Bros' Russell Crowe-starring twist on Dracula, according to Deadline.
Previously thought to be playing the eponymous role of hero Jonathan Harker, Crowe is now reported to be appearing as the infamous vampire.
The film will see him tracked by Harker, who has been reimagined as a Scotland Yard detective. The latter role is yet to be cast.
Jaume Collet-Serra was attached to direct when the film rights were acquired in 2011, but was later shunted to the now defunct live action Akira project.
Roth directed Hostel and, most recently, its 2007 sequel.
He has also taken the occasional acting role, including an appearance in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds.
Roth is also attached to direct horror thriller The Green Inferno.
