The British-born director- the brother of Sir Ridley Scott - was responsible for a number of classic Hollywood movies, including Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Beverly Hills Cop II and True Romance.
Stars and friends have now taken to Twitter to express their shock at Tony's death, and to pay tribute to the talented filmmaker.
