The Disney-owned company announced on its Facebook page that Joss Whedon's blockbuster is coming back to 1,705 theatres across the country for a week-long run.
Marvel's reveal was accompanied by a reminder - "Don't forget to stay through the credits" - which could indicate that additional content has been added to the end of the movie.
The Avengers raked in $1.49 billion at the worldwide box office during its original theatrical run, making it the third-biggest film of all time globally and domestically, behind Titanic and Avatar.
With the movie due for release on DVD and Blu-ray next month, Marvel has showcased several deleted scenes from the film including an alternative opening sequence.
Whedon's director's commentary has reportedly been omitted from the UK DVD and Blu-ray, which arrive on September 17.
