Bette Midler to receive Songwriters Hall of Fame achievement award

Bette Midler is to receive a special honour from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The 'Wind Beneath My Wings' star will be given the prestigious Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award at a New York City gala in June.

Midler joins Stevie Wonder, Neil Diamond, Lena Horne and Dionne Warwick as previous recipients of the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award.

Bob Seeger, Gordon Lightfoot, Don Schlitz, Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones will also be honoured by the Hall of Fame at the June 14 ceremony.

Midler has won three Grammy Awards, three Emmy Awards and four Golden Globes over the course of her 40-year career.

She will next appear on the big screen opposite Billy Crystal in the comedy Parental Guidance, opening on November 21 in the US.
