Sinead O'Connor has apparently cancelled her upcoming US tour.

The 'Nothing Compares 2 U' singer revealed on her blog that she is scrapping her upcoming live dates because she is "very unwell" in the wake of two apparent suicide attempts in January.

O'Connor wrote: "As you all know I had a very serious breakdown between December and March and I had been advised by my doctor not to go on tour but didn't want to 'fail' or let anyone down as the tour was already booked to coincide with album release…

"So very stupidly I ignored his advice to my great detriment, attempting to be stronger than I actually am."

O'Connor went on to express hope that she will be able to appear at a Curtis Mayfield tribute concert in New York City in July.

The singer appeared to delete both her website and Twitter page in the hours after releasing her cancellation statement.

Ticketmaster has posted cancellations for O'Connor's upcoming concerts in Washington DC, New York City and Boston. Other dates are still listed as pending on the ticket vendor's website.

O'Connor has garnered headlines for publicly splitting and reuniting with fourth husband Barry Herridge in the last six months.

She unveiled her ninth studio album How About I Be Me (And You Be You)? earlier this year.
