Tickets for this year's Splendour in the Grass festival have sold out as the event's new site in Byron Bay was approved for five years.

The Courier-Mail reports that the 17,500 tickets for this year's event - featuring acts including Jack White, Smashing Pumpkins, Azealia Banks, Lana Del Rey and At The Drive-In - sold out in 43 minutes when they went on sale this morning (Friday, April 27).

"This tops off an amazing week for Splendour. Massive thanks to everyone who has supported our event this year," said organisers in a statement.

It was confirmed yesterday (April 26) that Splendour in the Grass will relocate to a site at Yelgun to the north of Byron Bay from 2013, as part of a five-year agreement between site owners North Byron Parklands and New South Wales planning authorities.

Byron Shire mayor Jan Barham told The ABC that she was concerned at the length of the trial and the potential impact on the area.

She was also worried that "the unknown impacts on flora and fauna" may not have been properly evaluated.

The capacity of the new site is around 35,000.

Splendour in the Grass will take place between July 27 and 29 at its original home of the Belongil Fields, following two years at an alternative site in Woodford, Queensland.
