The 'I Want Candy' singer has largely focused on acting since 2002's Another Earthquake!, but he told Page Six that he recently began recording new tracks.
"My goal is to get it out by December, which probably won't happen because I am being so critical on myself. I want the best," Carter declared.
He also revealed that the album could be titled The After Party, a reference to his 2000 record Aaron's Party (Come Get It).
Carter added of how his musical style has evolved: "I am notorious for being a bad boy. I am more of a sophisticated one now, but I am still bad."
Another Earthquake! reached number 18 in the US album charts, significantly lower than his two previous releases Oh Aaron and Aaron's Party (Come Get It).
