The figure also marks her highest first-week sales in America, after 2010's Loud opened on 207,000 and debuted at number three.
Rihanna thanked her fans on her official Twitter page last night, commenting: "Wait!!!!! What the F**K?!!!! #UNAPOLOGETIC just debuted at #1 in AMERICA!!!!! My first number 1 album there!!! Thank you Navy, u deserve it.
"I'm legit crying like a p**sy right now!! #UNAPOLOGETIC".
It was recently reported that the record has been withheld from Spotify. Her label Big Machine Records explained: "We're not putting the brand-new releases on Spotify.
"If we just throw out everything we have, we're done."
