Playlist: 10 tracks you need to hear

By and Lewis Corner
Listen to our ten favourite new releases below, including Alphabeat, Gossip, BoB and The Temper Trap.

Alphabeat: 'Vacation' (out now)
We didn't realise quite how much we missed Alphabeat until they recently sent an email prompting us of their return. New track 'Vacation' marks a return to the summery '80s beats and playful hooks heard on their early cuts 'Fascination' and 'Boyfriend'. Consider us properly excited for album number three later this year. RC

Gossip: 'Perfect World' (out now)
We weren't even aware Gossip were recording new material, which makes this surprise release all the more brilliant. Helmed by pop production factory Xenomania (Girls Aloud), the track treads a perfect balance between catchy hooks and gritty guitar beats. Fingers crossed the rest of the album appears out of the blue soon. RC

B. Traits: 'Fever' (released March 25)
Canadian country girl Brianna Price, aka B. Traits, has defied all expectations and become one of the most popular DJs across the globe. Currently hosting Radio 1's monthly feature 'In New DJs We Trust', the star will release her debut single 'Fever' in March 25. The mix is a adrenaline-inducing club serenade of old-school rave and '90s house beats. LC

Britt Love: 'Playing The Game' (release date TBC)
Singer Britt Love - once a part of pop duo Mini Viva (remember 'Left My Heart in Tokyo'?) - has been steadily building up to her solo career by releasing a number of demos online. Her latest clip is a snippet of new song 'Playing The Game', and picks up where her former band left off: ballsy neon pop with a wildly addictive chorus. RC

BoB: 'So Good' (released April 16)
Since his initial success in the UK with two number one singles in 2010, US rapper BoB hasn't managed to maintain the same level of chart dominance in Blighty as he has in America. Hoping to reignite the British public's interest in him, the star will release mid-tempo jam 'So Good' as the third single from his forthcoming album Strange Clouds. LC

Rye Rye: 'Boom Boom' (release date TBC)
For those not yet aware of US singer and rapper Ryeisha 'Rye Rye' Berrain, she's signed to MIA's record label N.E.E.T and sounds a cross between the woman herself and Swedish pop stalwart Robyn. The trailer for her debut album Go! Pop! Bang! might mix vintage arcade noises with the Vegaboys '99 classic 'Boom Boom Boom', but the result is surprisingly fresh. RC

Cover Drive: 'Sparks' (released April 22)
We'll admit that we were unsure of Cover Drive's first two releases, but their latest cut sounds like a surefire hit. Yes, the clumsy verses aren't up to much, but the piano-lead chorus and familiar-sounding middle 8 are glorious. Their debut album Bajan Style follows on April 30. RC

Ria Richie: 'Only One' (release date TBC)
Soul songstress Ria Ritchie bagged herself a record deal after being spotted by Plan B on YouTube. Championed by fellow UK hip-hop scenesters Dappy and Tinchy Stryder, Ritchie has worked with Craze & Hoax (Emeli Sandé, Dot Rotten) for her new single 'Only One'. The cut is a stirring mix of fleeting strings and moody beats. LC

The Temper Trap: 'Rabbit Hole' (out now)
Australian five-piece The Temper Trap will return later this year with their second studio album. 'Rabbit Hole', the first track to be unveiled from the set, starts as a light mix of acoustic strums and sparse beats before bursting into a finale of charged electric guitar and heart-pounding drums. LC

Neon Hitch: 'F**k U Betta'
After gaining herself mainstream exposure as part of Gym Class Heroes' latest single 'Ass Back Home', British indie-popstar Neon Hitch will release 'F**k U Betta' as her first cut. The upbeat composition is a quirky mix of squiffy vocal effects, pulsing club beats and plenty of bad language. LC
