Tom Frankenburg has posted a video on YouTube detailing his offer to give someone his planned romantic holiday to Malta.
He had booked the £1,000 trip in July for himself and his girlfriend, but they have since broken up.
The music technology and production student explained that he doesn't want to take the trip with anyone else, and he isn't able to get a refund or sell it on eBay, so has decided to just give it away for free.
At first he had intended to give it to a friend, but then decided to give it to the most deserving person that applies for it through YouTube.
Since posting the video last week, it has received over 65,000 hits and several requests for the trip.
In the video, Frankenburg says: "I'm going to give the holiday away for nothing. Why am I doing this? Well we live in a broken world, a place where people get hurt, where war happens, where equality doesn't exist and I want to fix this.
"Obviously I can't fix everything but I can fix it just a little bit and hopefully this video will inspire you to do the same, even if it's just a little thing like sitting next to that lonely kid at school, or buying a homeless person a sandwich for lunch - it all counts and together we can make this place a better place to live in."
"I just lost my mind and decided to do something nice," he told This Is Nottingham. "I was really worried people would think it was a scam.
"The majority of people who have got in contact are not saying they want it for themselves but for other people who deserve it. There have been some really sad emails about people battling cancer who deserve a break.
"Some were funny responses like 'I want to go to Malta because they must all be Maltesers out there'."
He added: "I was mortified when me and my girlfriend broke up. It was salt in the wounds that I had this holiday and didn't know what to do with it. I was really gutted.
"I was thinking about going myself but I didn't have anyone I would like to go with and I knew the holiday wouldn't be much fun. Getting these responses, I know someone out there will really appreciate this. This has been a massive release. I have just been able to let go and I feel it's not going to go to waste."
The offer will include two return flights from East Midlands Airport, accommodation at the 4-star Hotel Fortina in Sliema and car rental from July 3 to 10.
Frankenburg will pick the lucky winner at the beginning of June.
