'W.' newsreader dies from assault injuries
Anne Pressly, a US TV news anchor who has a small role in the film W., has died in hospital from injuries sustained in an assault last Monday.

The 26-year-old was found unconscious in her Arkansas home with severe head and body wounds. She was taken to St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Centre but passed away on Saturday.

A statement from Pressly's parents said: "It was our hope, as was yours, that Anne would overcome the injuries inflicted upon her in the brutal attack at her home.

"We were with her in her last moments, and although our hearts are broken, we are at the same time comforted by our faith knowing that Anne is now with our heavenly father."

A presenter for ABC affiliate KATV, Pressly portrayed a conservative commentator who endorses President George Bush's invasion of Iraq in Oliver Stone's W.

Police have yet to identify a suspect, though they have discovered that Pressly's credit card was used at a petrol station near her home last Monday.
