Bates won a trophy for 'Outstanding Guest Actress' for her work, and has now thanked Sheen for helping her to win.

On her official Twitter account, Bates wrote: "Heartfelt thanks Emmy voters!… [Two and a Half Men creator] Chuck Lorre, Jon Cryer, Ashton Kutcher & cast & crew of 2 1/2 Men for this honour…

"But most of all my thanks & respect to the inimitable Charlie Sheen without whom this recognition simply would not have been possible."

The 64-year-old actress recently revealed that she underwent a double mastectomy after a breast cancer diagnosis.

She is up for a second acting award at the Primetime Emmys on September 23 for her role on the short-lived drama Harry's Law.
