EastEnders actress Patsy Palmer has given her blessing to former co-star Natalie Cassidy's reconciliation with her violent ex-partner.

Cassidy confirmed at the weekend that she is back with Adam Cottrell, who she was engaged to until he allegedly hit her in an argument last May.

He was later sentenced to 120 hours of unpaid work and placed on a 12-month community order with 12 months' supervision after pleading guilty to charges of assault and criminal damage.

Speaking about the reunion, Cassidy said: "I now realise everything that happened between Adam and myself was down to alcohol. And he knows this too. But that is why he has sought help and is in recovery.

"I will never forget the things he did to me during that awful time but I do forgive him. He says he is deeply sorry and I believe he means it."

Palmer, who managed to beat her own issues with alcohol and a drug dependency, has since sent well-wishes to the couple and their 17-month-old daughter Eliza.

"I'd like to wish @Nat_Cassidy and Adam and Eliza all my love," she wrote on Twitter. "Having a family in recovery from alcholism is the greatest gift.. peace!!"

When a follower questioned her remark, Palmer responded: "I think it is [a gift] wats more of a gift than a child having a loving family?xx unless of course you think there's more important things."

Palmer said last year that she feels "lucky to be alive" following her struggle with drink and drugs.
