Michael (Steve John Shepherd) is determined to prove himself to fiancée Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) by contributing to their wedding, but he has to carry on using unsavoury measures as his finances remain in a poor state.
Viewers recently saw Jean (Gillian Wright) give away a significant sum to Michael, wrongly believing that she was making an investment in the boxing club.
Choosing Jean as his target once again in the coming days, Michael scrapes together £500 and hands it over to her - claiming that it's a return on her investment.
Michael then tries to convince Jean to secretly hand over some of Alfie's (Shane Richie) savings as a second investment, insisting that it would be a wise move with guaranteed profits for the pub boss.

Jean is initially reluctant as she fears it's too risky, but she changes her mind when she discovers the extent of Alfie's financial troubles.
Deciding that she needs to help Alfie, Jean gives away a chunk of his cash to Michael under the impression that she'll soon be raking in profits for him. She tells Michael that Alfie mustn't find out about this for now, but little does she know that Michael will be using the money to pay for his wedding venue…
