Coronation Street fans have known that there is a dramatic kidnap plot on the way for Rita Sullivan for some time - and the identity of the mystery culprit has now been confirmed.

Loan shark Rick Neelan, who has shaken up life for Tina McIntyre and Tommy Duckworth in recent weeks, will hold Rita (Barbara Knox) hostage as her wedding day arrives in early June.

The surprise turn of events occurs as Tina decides to stand up to Rick once and for all - livid after discovering that Tommy has been secretly stashing drugs in cars for him.

Reports have revealed that Tina (Michelle Keegan) takes matters into her own hands on the day of Rita's wedding. The feisty barmaid storms round to the garage, swipes the supply of illegal substances and orders Rick to meet her if he ever wants to see the gear again.

Tina may think she has the upper hand as she aims to get the villain out of her life for good, but when Rick arrives for the meeting, he has Rita in his car and threatens to drive her into the canal if Tina doesn't hand the drugs back over…

Whatever happens next, it's clearly not the happy wedding day that Rita was expecting. Will she defy the odds and become Mrs Tanner?

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, June 4 on ITV1.
