Corrie scare, 'EastEnders' kiss, E'dale deception, 'Oaks Nancy labour

By
Coronation Street's Maria Connor relies on best friend Marcus Dent for support as she faces a breast cancer scare next month.

The storyline begins as Maria (Samia Ghadie) seems distracted and short-tempered at work and with her loved ones.

When Marcus (Charlie Condou) decides to tackle the matter by asking Maria what's up, she finally confides in him by revealing that she has been referred to a clinic about a lump in her breast.

Maria adds that her appointment is that day, but she'd originally wanted to keep quiet about it until she knew what she was facing.

Marcus immediately insists on joining Maria as she faces the doctors, so they head off secretly without telling Jason or Aidan what is going on.

In the end, the tests are inconclusive and when the pair head back to the street, it's clear that Maria is terrified over what could lie ahead…

Over on EastEnders, a tough day for Abi Branning leads to her sharing a kiss with ex-boyfriend Jay Mitchell.

Next month, viewers will see Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) targeted by a boisterous girl gang who start to cause trouble in Walford.

The gang's ringleader Alexa shares a history with Lola Pearce as they used to live at the same care home. However, it's Abi who Alexa seems to be most fixated on, picking on her and taunting her on more than one occasion.

Events come to a head when Lola is horrified to see Alexa and the gang bullying Abi and pushing her around, while filming the incident on their mobile phones.

Unwilling to stand by and do nothing, Lola pulls Alexa back and urges Abi to leave the scene while she deals with this.

While Lola is busy standing up to Alexa by hitting her, a shaken Abi runs to find Jay without hesitation.

As Abi realises that she still has strong feelings for Jay, he promises to always protect her. The pair then fall back into each other's arms…

Coming up on Emmerdale, Jai Sharma is forced to miss Rachel Breckle's baby scan as the pressure to keep their big secret intensifies.

Jai (Chris Bisson) is eager to get a glimpse of his unborn child as he heads to the hospital for the appointment. However, he is stopped in his tracks when he suddenly spots Gennie and Nikhil coming out of the lift.

Gennie (Sian Reese-Williams) has paid an unexpected visit to the hospital because she is suffering pains, so Jai is forced to quickly come up with a cover story - falsely claiming that he rushed to be with them after Rishi told him what was going on.

Later, there is relief all round when Gennie and Nikhil (Rik Makarem) are told that her pains can be attributed to Braxton Hicks. However, Jai is in turmoil because he now has to maintain his deception by staying with the pair and missing Rachel's appointment.

At the same time, Rachel (Gemma Oaten) is left alone wondering where Jai suddenly went - and is ultimately forced to go ahead with the scan without him. Can she forgive him for this?

Over on Doctors, new regular cast member Dido Miles joins the show in the role of Emma Reid.

Emma starts work at The Mill as a temporary replacement for Elaine Cassidy, who quits the surgery next week in the aftermath of the recent Harrison dramas.

Viewers will see that Emma shares a history with practice manager Howard Bellamy (Ian Kelsey), though they both decide not to reveal this to any of their colleagues.

Howard is unsettled by Emma's presence and is keen for her to go, but Heston makes it clear that they're in no place to quibble given their current staffing problems.

Remaining unconvinced that Emma's appointment is a good idea, Howard raises his concerns directly with her. However, when she points out that it's only a temporary arrangement and they should be able to keep things professional, he is forced to give in…
