Japanese tech blog Macotakara understands that the Cupertino-based company's next portable media player will include the same 4-inch LCD display as its upcoming iPhone iteration.
The website's sources also claim that the next generation iPod Touch will sport a brushed aluminium coating, similar to the sixth generation iPhone, and house the same dual-core A5 processor as the current iPhone 4S.
Apple is rumoured to be dropping the wide dock connector currently used in its mobile devices when it launches its new iPhone - a controversial move that could result in compatibility issues with a range of current accessories.
The fourth generation iPod Touch was released in September 2010. By March of the following year, combined sales of the media player line exceeded 60 million units.
Apple's sixth generation iPhone is expected to be released in September or October.
