The 1990 film Goodfellas is being developed for television.

AMC is working with writer Nicholas Pileggi, who penned the original screenplay as well as the book on which Goodfellas was based, and producers Irwin Winkler and David Winkler to develop a TV version of the crime film, Deadline reports.

A Goodfellas TV series has long been rumoured, and was said to be officially in the works in October 2010.

Goodfellas starred Ray Liotta as a gangster named Henry Hill, who joins up with the mob. The film also features Paul Sorvino, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci.

The TV series will likely follow the early years of Henry Hill.

In October, Sorvino was struck by a cab in New York City.
