The 36-year-old actress - best known for roles in Justified, Dirty Sexy Money and Passions - will reportedly play Claire Matthews in the pilot of the untitled FBI thriller, Deadline reports.
Claire is the ex-wife of serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy), who finds herself in danger when he escapes from prison. Kevin Bacon has been cast as Ryan Hardy, the ex-FBI agent who leads the search for him.
Last year, bosses at Showtime's Californication cast Zea in a recurring role, playing a love interest for David Duchovny's central character.
She also landed a guest role in CBS drama Person Of Interest in 2011, portraying a district attorney alongside Jim Caviezel's CIA agent.
Zea's Justified castmate Margo Martindale recently landed a lead role in ABC comedy Counter Culture.
