The cult comedy's fourth season will air alongside season two of Whitney on Fridays, often considered a 'graveyard' slot.
"Community tends to survive wherever it goes," Greenblatt told The Hollywood Reporter.
"If you don't build it, they won't come. There was no intention to extend those shows to the graveyard on Friday."
Community has suffered from low ratings, but was officially picked up for 13 more episodes earlier this week.
The show's creator Dan Harmon recently insisted that he would not depart his role as showrunner following a feud with star Chevy Chase.
Community currently airs on Thursdays at 8/7c on NBC.
