Ellen DeGeneres has also signed up to executive produce the project for the network.

The hour-long drama will be produced by DeGeneres's A Very Good Production company in association with Warner Bros.

It will centre on a young woman who has six months left on her three-year aim to forge a career as an actress in New York.

Graham will write the pilot episode and executive produce along with DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman.

The original novel, which became a New York Times best-seller, was based on Graham's personal experience as a young actress in the 1990s.

The Gilmore Girls star is now writing a follow-up.
