Dickerson - who has previously helmed five episodes of the AMC drama, including the season two finale - has returned to direct the season three premiere.
"I'm really excited for the fans to see a growth in the characters that they know," Dickerson said of the episode, in an official AMC interview.
"And... we're introducing Michonne (Danai Gurira) in all of her glory. We get to meet her, and I know a lot of people have been looking forward to that."
Dickerson also hinted that season three will focus more on a "human menace" and less on the zombie threat.
"It's human drama but after an apocalypse," he explained. "It's human drama after society has completely disintegrated.
"Our people have figured their way through one menace but now there's the human menace, and now they're taking advantage of the fact that there's no law, there's no more government. Who can you trust? It's still dealing with pretty esoteric territory."
The Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US and FX in the UK.
