Lambert famously finished as runner-up in American Idol's eighth season, losing to Kris Allen in the 2009 finale.
Speaking to The AP, Lambert said that he's happy to see The X Factor, The Voice and other talent shows have been added to the television landscape.
"I think that it's great that there are shows [like The Voice and The X Factor] out there giving people that platform," the 'Never Close Our Eyes' star said.
"It's really difficult to make it in the music industry. These shows are great because they show what the person is capable of and their journey and process of becoming an artist."
Lambert also said he knows from personal experience that it can be difficult to parlay fame on a reality competition into a successful career.
"I think the difficult thing is the transition between TV competition series and going into the actual music industry," he explained. "There still seems to be a slight disconnect there. Hopefully, they're fixing that."
Lambert announced last week that he will be fronting three shows with Queen in July.
His sophomore album Trespassing is now available for purchase in the US and is released on July 2 in the UK.
