The 42-year-old performed a moving rendition of Beyoncé's 'Halo' during Monday night's first live quarter final show, pulling in 33.6%. However, his popularity did not hold with his coach Christina Aguilera, who sent him home during the broadcast's instant elimination.
In second place was Lindsey Pavao, whose unique take on Katy Perry's 'Part of Me' earned her 15.8% of reader votes.
Slightly less impressive were Jermaine Paul, who got 13% for his cover of Phil Collins's 'Against All Odds', and Ashley de la Rosa, whose version of Jewel's 'Foolish Games' brought in 11.3%.
Readers were even less enthusiastic about 17-year-old country singer RaeLynn, giving her rendition of Jason Aldean's 'She's Country' only 9.6%.
Chris Mann and Jordis Unga, the latter of whom was eliminated by coach Blake Shelton during the broadcast, also failed to win over voters with their respective performances of Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida' and Sara Evans's 'A Little Bit Stronger', getting only 6.8% each.
Finally, falling to the bottom was Erin Willett, whose cover of Adele's 'Set Fire to the Rain' was given a paltry 3.1%
