Jenna Fischer has said that the "whole cast" of The Office are hoping to return for season nine.

Rumors have swirled about the future of The Office given that Rainn Wilson is considering a Dwight Schrute spinoff and Mindy Kaling will be starring in her own Fox pilot.

It was even reported last week that The Office's executive producer Greg Daniels was mulling a reboot featuring a few returning stars and new cast members.

Fischer addressed uncertainty over The Office's future in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, in which she expressed hopes that NBC will renew the sitcom.

"I don't know; it's not up to me, because I'm just the actor, but the actors are all prepared and wanting to come back. The whole cast, I'm talking about everybody - Ed [Helms], John [Krasinski], me, everyone is wanting to come back," the actress claimed.

She continued: "It's really just a matter of NBC pulling the trigger. They have to announce it by May 15 when the upfronts happen, right? So we're all just waiting.

"We're really excited to come back, everybody wants to come back. I know Rainn does have his show, but he's going to come back to The Office as well, so yeah, we're just waiting."

Fischer added that even Kaling could return for at least a few episodes of a potential ninth season, although she admitted she has no knowledge of either shows' "schedules".

"I don't know how all that works out. That doesn't mean she's gone forever," Fischer said.

The Office continues Thursday at 9/8c on NBC.
