The actress admitted to The Wall Street Journal that she's confused as to why some Office fans have criticised Andy and Erin's budding relationship.
"It's not supposed to compare to Jim and Pam. It's supposed to be a love story of oddballs," Fischer explained. "I think it's unfair to say that the show can never have another romance. Look at Michael and Holly. It kind of confuses me because you can enjoy that storyline much more if you weren't trying to compare it to someone else. Maybe there is a longing for a different kind of love story. "
She further commented: "The love between Jim and Pam was the big reason people got attached to the story in the beginning. It's difficult because you can't follow us home. To bring conflict into the office is kind of a big deal realistically.
"These are the characters who don't air their dirty laundry. But there are conversations that could happen in the stairwell or in the car. Or break room."
Fischer also revealed that the cast of The Office truly miss Steve Carrell, who left the series last season.
"What's weird is when I catch a rerun on television and I get homesick for him. I miss his voice," she said.
Fischer previously suggested that the "whole cast" of The Office want to return for season nine.
The Office airs Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC.
